The Pilbara Region of WA was largely discovered by Dave Humphrey
(for paragliding purposes) though I have vague memories of someone flying a Hang glider from Mt Nameless in Tom Price back when I was a kid.
The inland areas are very difficult, with rocky takeoffs and have only been flown by a handful of people.
A lot of the areas are on mining leases so make sure you get appropriate permission.
The Mid-West of western Australia is vast flat area, but there are some nice flying sites if you dont mind a drive. Its definately a winter flying area as it is very hot and windy in summer.
There are quite a few flying spots around Perth, from beach sites to inland XC take offs such as MT Bakewell at York.
Contact a local club such as Western Soarers before you fly as sites can be be very sensitive.
There are many flying sites around the Margaret River area,
and also down around Augusta.
The main flying site is Conto Springs, 20km from the Margaret River township. Greenhills, near Augusta is also a great place for coastal soaring if you have a 4WD.
Albany is a great Summer flying spot, it has many flying sites from a good sized take off at Shelly beach, to low beach sites.
It caters for nearly every wind direction except North.
Esperance is quite a drive from anywhere, but well worth it ifyou are in the Area.Esperence isknown for beautiful clean beaches and clear water.
There are at least a dozen flying sites around Yorke peninsular, mainly low coastal sites, but definately worth exploring.
Adelaide has a vibrant, friendly flying community, and some great flying sites within an hours or so from the city.
Sydney has some great flying spots, from the Northern beaches down to Stanwell Park. My favourite spot is up in the Blue Mountains, the scenery is just amazing.
If you are looking for somewhere to go in the Aussie winter...go north to Cairns, north Queensland

These are not all of the flying sites in Australia, just some of the ones that I have flown. The main Paragliding regions in Australia are around Bright in Victoria, and Manilla in NSW.
What can I say..this is one of the best places I have ever flown.
