A paraglider is a hybrid aircraft, sort of a cross between a ram-air parachute and a hang glider. It has no rigid frame, weighs about 18kg and fits into a rucksack, making it ideal for "para-touring"
It can be flown with or without a motor, and has a glide ratio of about 8 to 1 with a trim speed of about 50kph.
Flights of up to 15,698 feet high (above take off) and 461.8 km long have been recorded.
Technical information about paragliding can be found HERE at Wikipedia.
Flight fascinates me.I learnt to Paraglide with the WA Paragliding Academy in Western Australia in 1993.
Since then Ive been lucky enough to fly from mountains (and in deserts) all over the world.
"ULF" (Ultra Low Flight)
is a 20 minute video that I have put together to demonstrate some techniques for flying paragliders on very low sand dune sites.
It features 3D graphics to help explain complex airflow
concepts.
